Research Interests
I am holding a doctoral degree in cognitive psychology and I am an experienced project manager and software developer. My research and development interests are primarily technology-enhanced learning, in particular intelligent, adaptive educational systems and human-computer interaction. I’m focusing on the evolution of psycho-pedagogical frameworks and models for efficient, effective, and immersive learning together with smart personalization, which includes individualized learning experiences within learning environments as well as non-invasive assessment and interventions. In recent times I’m increasingly working in the fields of computer-supported formative assessment, learning analytics, educational data mining, and the related visualization techniques.
Since 2001 I’m involved in international, cross-discipline research and development projects. I am member of the ACM, the Austrian Computer Society (OCG), and the Styrian Society for Psychology (StGP) In addition, I am in the editorial boards of the International Journal of Game-based Learning  and Education Research International, I am reviewer for various journals such as ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology, Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, and BMC Medical Education as well as conferences such as the International Conference on Web-based Learning (ICWL), European Conference on Technology-Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL), or Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED). Since 2010 I am the university’s representative in the Games and Learning Alliance (GALA).
